(January 1994)The reporting of activities of local governments — communities, towns and cities across Canada — is crucial to tracking long-term change and, in particular, reorganizing the influence of human activity on the ecosystem around us. It is at the local level that the biggest possibility for change exists; it is at the local level that the greatest change is now occurring. Unfortunately, there is no repository of the sustainable development experiences at the local level and there is no mechanism for the ongoing exchange of information among communities across Canada.
