Working Paper # 22 - Media, Fish and Sustainability: A Paper on Sustainable Development and the Canadian News Media (February 1994)The Education Task Force of the NRTEE commissioned this report by Michael Keating on the disappearance of the northern cod, and more particularly on the media coverage of this issue, to help illustrate the concept of sustainable development to national news editors. The report looks at how the cod issue was handled by the media, and how it might have been handled if coverage had been dealt with through the perspective of sustainable development. This paper was produced in response to an identified need to provide concrete examples of how sustainable development fits into everyday news issues.
