Workshop on Water Use Information – Ottawa, Ontario – May 5, 2011

 The National Round Table on the Environment and the Economy (NRTEE) is evaluating water use information, data and knowledge related to the natural resource sectors in Canada. The NRTEE convened a workshop with water experts and practitioners to discuss possible solutions to critical issues related to this subject.

The purpose of the workshop is to:

  • Validate solutions and recommendations proposed by the NRTEE
  • Discuss and develop frameworks for implementation of the proposed solutions

The proposed solutions are centered on four concepts:

  • Coordination of existing and new programs related to water data and information;
  • Standardization of monitoring, measurement and reporting related to water data and information;
  • Integration of water data and information to produce accurate local scale water assessments;
  • Communication and accessibility of water data and information in a transparent manner.
