We convene opinion leaders and experts from across Canada around our table to share their knowledge and diverse perspectives. We stimulate debate and integrate polarities. We create a context for possibilities to emerge.

ADVISE

We generate ideas and provide realistic solutions to advise governments, Parliament and Canadians. We proceed with resolve and optimism to bring Canada’s economy and environment closer together.

SECTION 2: RAISON D'ÊTRE

Economic growth and prosperity are of central importance to Canadians. However, economic activity is placing increasing pressure on the health of the Canadian and global environments. There is an ongoing need to confront this dilemma by channelling rigorous research, stakeholder views and the resulting new knowledge into policy making. The NRTEE responds to this need by identifying and promoting ways to encourage economic prosperity for all Canadians, while preserving the environment for current and future generations. The agency's contribution corresponds to two of the four themes set out in Canada's Performance, the President of Treasury Board's annual report to Parliament. These two themes are (1) economic opportunities and innovation in Canada and (2) the Canadian environment.
