Our process helps Canada achieve sustainable development solutions that integrate environmental and economic considerations to ensure the lasting prosperity and well-being of our nation.

We rigorously research and conduct high quality analysis on issues of sustainable development. Our thinking is original and thought provoking.

We convene opinion leaders and experts from across Canada around our table to share their knowledge and diverse perspectives. We stimulate debate and integrate polarities. We create a context for possibilities to emerge.

We generate ideas and provide realistic solutions to advise governments, Parliament and Canadians. We proceed with resolve and optimism to bring Canada’s economy and environment closer together.

Progress Through Process: Achieving Sustainable Development Together – Convene

Through two roundtable discussions and a series of one-on-one interviews, with Canada’s leading experts and practitioners in this field, we asked and discussed two key questions:  Is there a governance problem for sustainable development in Canada? How can collaboration and engagement improve public policy for sustainable development?

October-November 2009

The NRT and the Public Policy Forum convened a select group of sustainability experts and stakeholders, business and environment leaders, together with senior federal and provincial government representatives and public engagement professionals and the media, as well as NRT members, for two focused roundtables to discuss, debate, and determine how sustainability governance can be improved.

Roundtable 1 – October 6, 2009
Is there a governance problem?

Roundtable 2 – November 10, 2009
What are the alternatives to the traditional policy process?
